I'm a Brit who does think that gun control has got out of hand. But you still have to look at the facts. The UK has the one of the fewest proportion of gun-related deaths a year in the world. The USA has more gun-deaths a year than Somalia.

How do you know gun crime wouldn't have risen MORE sharply if the guns hadn't been banned?

simple mate, there were no other factors withing the UK that changed so significantly as to increase crime. eg. a mass increase in poverty.

In countries where there aren't a lot of guns there aren't as many murders. Most people are lazy and weak. If they want to kill someone and they have a gun they will do it. But that same person won't go out of their way to kill someone by some other means. Tying someone to train tracks? That's a lot harder than shooting them.

I think the second amendment is great but we still need to be extremely careful about who we allow to buy guns and what kinds of guns they can buy.

@GrizzPaul thats true, but the second amendment will only protect you as much as you protect it. What I mean is, too many federal restrictions already exist in the US and it will continue to get worse unless almost every gun owner over there puts pen to paper and lets their local government representative know that they strongly oppose any gun control. And you need to do this every time the gov tries to push new restrictions in. Get yourselves heard.
