Dethkarz is a combat racing game made by Beam Software and Published by Melbourne House. It came out around 1998

This video was made years ago before I had my current PC. I couldn't get the game to work right anymore and I found this gameplay on my External Harddrive so I just used this.

Dethkarz is a combat Racing game which plays itself like a standard racing game but you can shoot your opponents during the race. Whoever gets destroyed is completely out of the race and does not come back. (That means you too if you get destroyed :P )

The game is very similar to Hi-Octane just not as fast and you still drive with wheels instead of hovercrafts.

You really need to learn the tracks while you play as this is vital later in the game. All of the tracks are "streets hanging in the air" which means if you fall down you have to wait a few seconds before you get back on track which makes you lose a few seconds of your lead.

Dethkarz has a career mode and if you are good enough and win some of the cups you can unlock new tracks and car types. Both are mainly different versions of the ones you already know but "enhanced"

The tracks get longer and more difficult to drive on and the cars get bigger, get more armor and are just faster than before.

On every track there are powerups lying around which can help you win the race. For example a nitro boost which inreases your speed dramatically for a few seconds or heat seeking missles...or mines which get laid out behind you so everyone who drives into them will take damage.

There is also a multiplayer mode ofcourse but I don't remember which game modes are available.

I think Dethkarz was not as good as Hi-Octane but it is good enough to have some good fun with it and is by no means bad.

what ports was it released for?

  • @marquis0r If you mean which platform it was released for then I think it was only released for the PC.

It was supposed to come out for N64 but it didn't for whatever the reason was ;)
