Amid the raging financial crisis, many in the US are left doubting the wisdom behind the American way of life. And in one enclave in the US state of Virginia, an increasing number of people are dropping the dollar and picking up a hammer and a sickle. RTs Priya Sridhar reports from a commune that is adopting a revolutionary way of life.

Communism is for SCHNOOBS but I guess it's their right to be schnoobs. If they want to live in communes then so be it. Crazy wackos are best away from free society.

In a communist state, they wouldn't be allowed to live that way. Somebody has to own/pay taxes on that land and invite others to participate. It is in effect a free enterprise. They work full time to generate income to support their way of life. There's a difference between a "commune" and Communism. Communism is imposed by the state on EVERYBODY, by force, no freedom of expression. Here, anyone with land, money, ingenuity, and a few friends can have a go at it. Getting there's the hard part.

Humans are what we are in Earth's ecosystem not because we were the most prosperous, or the most enlightened, or the most joyous. We are what we are because we brutally murdered everything else. Is not somethign I would take pride of.

@hellaflush707 equal economic status also means social immobility, therefore eliminating one of the main stimulus for entrepreneurship.
