* Please note * I don't sell anything.

Hello. My name is Diana, and today I turned 39 years old. My husband and I celebrated my birthday on Saturday by going surfing in Santa Cruz.

We had a terrific day. The surf conditions were very good, as a storm swell had come in from somewhere, kicking up the waves. It was crowded, but it is always crowded in Santa Cruz, so, no big deal.

My husband and I surfed Cowell's Beach, the very same spot we met ten years ago. We met surfing, out in the water, just chatting, during the downtime as you wait for the sets to roll in. (Waves often come in "sets" of three, and in-between these sets, the water can be calm, often glassy.) There is not much to do as you wait for the next set to roll in, so you can either lean back on your board, soak up some sun, (or, more likely, some fog), or you can talk to the other surfers around you.

Ten years ago, the most handsome man I'd ever seen paddled up next to me during such a break between sets. He admired my.... surfboard, and started asking me questions about it. Is that a Hawaiian board? Where did you get? Is it a tri-fin, or a single fin?

I ended up marrying that man.

I find more things to love about him, as ever year passes.

We just celebrated our eight wedding anniversary on April 22.

Today's fibromyalgia chat is devoted to surfing, something both my husband and I love to do. And, the awesome part is, I feel so much better these days, that I can get back to the activities I love to do.

I will admit that it is still difficult for me to paddle my surfboard. My shoulder and arms are not fully cleared yet of fibromyalgia. I tire easily when paddling. And, as I always tell newbie surfers, (known as "grommets"), the three most important things to know about surfing are: "1) Paddle! 2) Paddle! and 3) Paddle!"

Yeah, it's super-important to be able to paddle fast to catch up with a wave, and drop down into it at the right time. The timing is everything or the wave will totally pass you by, and you'll never get up on a wave. So, still having a lot of fibrocrap in my shoulders is a total bummer.

But, I know this is not a permanent state. There will come a day when that crud is gone, and I will be able to paddle without pain. The strength will fully return to my upper body, the same way it has returned to my legs. And, that will be a glorious day indeed.

Until then, I'll be patient, and continue to follow the Guaifenesin Protocol, exercise, and eat right, avoiding processed/pre-packaged foods, and white bread/white flour, foods containing corn syrup, and sugary foods.

The road to wellness is there. I just need to choose to walk it.

  • I don't know why but i enjoy listening to you talk. :)

  • Thank you. You are very kind. I sometimes wonder why people enjoy hearing me talk, as well. But, five years ago, I was very sick with fibromyalgia, and now I'm not. I lead a very active, healthy, full, rich life. Dr. St. Amand says that all of us who get well have a debt to those who are still sick to help them get well. I thought about this, and thought about the people online who encouraged me when I was feeling my worst. So, I decided it was payback time. :)

  • Hi Diana,

Happy, Happy Birthday! You're so right about the 39 year mark, although I've never used it. I'm glad to hear you enjoy your birthday. You amaze me with with the things you do. Get getting well.

  • I'm feeling great. Thanks for the good wishes. My girlfriends took me out on Saturday night in San Francisco for the

"KFOG- KA-BOOM." It's a big fireworks show coordinated to music. One of my girlfriends' friends has a boat, docked on the bay. It was foggy, we froze our butts off, (it was San Fran, after all), and had an awesome time. So foggy you could only see the bottom of the fireworks. "Ooooh, red fog." (BOOM!) "Oooh! Sparkly white and yellow fog!" (BOOM!) We really did have fun. :)

  • happy bday dear!!!!!!! ur an awesome fibro informer i appreciate ur vids u crack me up make me smile...tlc

  • Thanks Urnotalone! I love your username! I'm glad I bring you a smile. I've always been something of the clown in the family. I guess that is common with "last borns." I am the youngest of four. But, then again, my oldest brother Mike, has the same wacky sense of humor as me, so I guess that dispels the "Birth Order Book" a bit. (I liked the book anyway.) Mike and I are still both the ones to goof off at the dinner table, even now, as adults, when we should know better. :)

  • This lady really does have a personality, that's a good thing. I just think it is stupid, yet cool and a good idea how people have their own personal channels and even though they are strange nobodies, it is still a good way to reach out. Me on the other hand, do not care. LOL

  • Thanks so much! Although, I must admit it, I overdid it this weekend. Sometimes I'm feeling so much better that I push my body too far. My body pushes back and says: "Hey, idiot. You can't change the reality that you do still have fibromyalgia." I was a hurting the past three days. I'm fine again today. I went to bed early, got extra sleep, drank lots of water, and ate super healthy. So, my body has now forgiven me, and I feel better again. Its easy to overdo it when you feel better.:)-D.
