A ride on the Cableway at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in April 1994. See the park from 80 feet up! The Cableway was built in 1960, and closed in 2000. The Big One was still under construction when this video was taken.
Not sure exactly... but the ride was built in the early 1960's so my guess is with increased insurance costs and claims vultures abound, it may have been too risky / expensive to run perhaps... the same happened with the cableways / chairlifts at Butlins holiday camps, all built around the same time. To be honest though, the last time I was on the Blackpool cableway there were a few yobs swinging the cabs around and 'spitting' onto those below.. not a good state of affairs for this kind of ride!
Not now there isn't, just the 2 original stations remain (converted for other use I presume), but only fresh tarmac covers the spots where the blue pylons once stood. I was very sad to see this ride go..!
This ride was closed in 2001 (I think) yet the 3 pylons (minus the cable) and stations stood for another 6 or so years rusting away, season after season. Went on this ride quite a few times in the past... a good classic ride... now sadly gone for good :-(
I remember this ride back at my first time in pleasure beach with my mother we didnt go on this ride for some odd reason but wished i had! :(

I was on that ride about ten years ago. It was a great way to see the park. Was sad to see that it had gone when i returned to blackpool last year.
