  • Saying 'it's all diatonic, so technically impossible to go wrong', is like saying 'if you've got paint in primary colours, you're bound to make an artwork'. Jim's got some of the best ears around, trust me :)

  • Jim O'Rourke is a genius.

  • I think saying stuff is important.

  • @Hyperufus you are as likely to make an artwork in either case - this is a false analogy.

  • @xmfdibujito

PS. I hope that these tools will bring out the musicality in more people, because we're all musical deep inside, maybe something more user friendly will keep many interested in music easier.

  • @xmfdibujito

    in that sense, i agree.

  • @LfunkeyA I Know, im not even a Jim´s fan. But my point is that we live in times with a lot of cool tools, that makes making music easier (I make electronic music!) but creativity remains as the most important thing, as always.

  • @xmfdibujito

Even if a musician's got 'better ears' this approach to improvisation, where you can't possibly get a 'wrong' note, makes it much easier for everyone. Also, the sounds in this device happen to sound good from the get go, no amazing equalizing skills are required. Now you can tell me that Jim O'Rourke is great, and he is, but what's demoed in this video is not something unachievable for the person with an average interest in music.

  • @LfunkeyA Maybe the notes will not sound "bad", but the music done could be imaginative, great stuff, or just boring. Today is easy to work "in scale", I can give you whatever cool tool, but a great musician will make a best thing with that.

  • Philip Glass in a box

  • @Hyperufus false analogy - you can't go wrong in either case because there is no 'wrong'

  • @Hyperufus

that's not a very good comparison. while the diatonic argument is rather true.
