Thailand: How to Fight Corruption?

How to fight corruption, and strengthen the hope for greater social justice? It's a tall order, but it's on the agenda in Thailand's capital Bangkok this week, during the world's biggest anti-corruption meeting. It comes at a time when Transparency International, the organization behind the conference, says graft remains a serious global problem. And to witness this problem at work, delegates won't have to look far, as activists say corruption is everywhere in Thai society.

  • @touchiness2009 a policeman in phuket, shot his girlfriend twice.killed her. he went on the run.no arrest warent was served. two weeks later the cop turned up. paid 200,000 baht to the police federation fund(back pockets) and 700,000 to the girls family. he went back on duty. his punishment was......they took his gun away. the thai cop was on about 10,000 a month. so where did all this money come from(bribes blackmail, extortion)

  • the police run the gambling, they always want money from you. my mate was crashed into by 3 drunk thai men on a scooter, police turned up,demanding money from my mate, the policeman said........if you werent here this wouldnt of happened.the drunk thais never got a cut of it cos they were drunk.policeman said you not pay you go monkey house, then you pay more

  • how about if you do nothing wrong? and the make it up that you did like they always do 95% of Thai police are Corrupt and us ENGLISH and AUSTRALIANS AND Americans all talk about the Corruption in Thailand soon we well not come to your country by the way its only good for one thing and thats just to have sex with Thai Lady's but there are other places beside Thailand for that.

  • Money is freedom ..In Thailand money is just a little bit more freedom .If you havent done ANYTHING wrong in the trafic, the officer can not fine you! As simple as that! You can pay him, and get off the hook much easier .But that implies you have done SOMETHING wrong! - Why people whine so much about this? - I do not get it .Thai police are kind and helpful .If I have done something wrong I must pay ..To the officer or the station ...Some call the pay to the officer bribe ..I call it freedom ..

  • I wonder how much a cop has to pay to stay out of that "specially created space for ethics and values".......

  • The best thing is to just not go to Thailand, let these people do with out your Hard Core foreign-currency. Let them suffer, let the and government suffer until something is done about the corruption and the exploitation of travelers. Now if you visit Thailand for pedophilia or the sex slave trade, then get no sympathy from me.

  • Things are changing very slowly but they are changing for the better

  • LOL at the French Guy talking english 2.27.... Sounds like inspector clouseau... hahaha

  • wow whats 200bht for wearing no helmet or no licence i get 200 baht fine all the time somtimes 5 times a week i just payem off or take them out drinking

  • Thai police will ask you for a bribe often cheaper than the actual fine for a crime you committed. Malay police will make up the fact you committed a when you didn't, then ask for a abribe. Which is worse? Low level government corruption makes a system that can't possibly function, work.

It's high level corruption that destroying Thailand, the whole culture built around the wealthy doing as they please. This initiative is simply to deflect attention from the real cluprits as always.
