read Rohinton Mistry: A Fine Balance. set in Bombay. amazing book!

@bhav213 this blows Papillon out of the water. It's more believable for a start! I've read Papillon about ten times and Shantaram 3 or 4 times and they don't compare.

From experience, when you learnn other languages like he has, your command of the English phonology and syntax actually becomes better.

@shantaramfan I agree. I'm not much of a reader, but I could not stop reading this book. In fact I'm only half way through now but I can't wait to read more tonight. Great stuff. I don't know if it's totally true or not but either way it's a great story. Imagine if it is totally true. Cool.

there's so much honesty in every and very line of the book!! thanks for posting this video

@shantaramfan - Try Vikram Chandra's "Sacred Games" or "Bombay: Maximum City" by Suketu Mehta. Both are really excellent and give you more insight in modern India and especially Mumbai. Actually that was my "therapy" after finishing "Shantaram" and having the same problem that you did. I can't wait for the sequel... I do read quite a lot, but the last ten years no book remotely touched me like this one. Thank you Mr. Roberts!

@shantaramfan read song of solomon by toni morrison, then read kiterunner then read the power of one by courtney, you will love all three...shantaram was fantastic, no doubt

the first line intrigued me so much I couldn't put it down.
Shantaram i the best book I have ever read. I finished it 4 months ago and can't find anything else to read. The command Gregory has of the english language is brilliant. I was glued from the first word to the last and I could have read another 900 pages. What can I read next, any suggestions?
