Crosswind landing at Tangier Island, Virginia

My family and I flew from Tipton at Fort Meade, Maryland to Tangier Island, Virginia in a Cessna 172 on this particularly gusty day. Imagine landing with an 11 knot crosswind component, on a runway with seagulls persistently loitering in your path and you have any given landing at Tangier Island. But for the food and the fantastic community, it's well worth the excitement.

Why didn't you transition to the wing low method prior to touchdown?

My failure to make an effective wing low transition was definitely the prime mistake. I've learned from watching this video over and over. My wife is definitely a good commentator!

Oh my gosh.. I wish I were going there right this minute !!! I will watch this over and over just to feel like I am going back :)

I have been there 5 times and hope to go back in Oct. Too bad some of the comments have to be so nasty.....

and, by the way.. the airport has a NEW RUNWAY ... it is awesome. The people of Tangier are really proud of their all new roads, and airport. Try to go there agian sometime !!!!

This island has gained a lot of attention from Linguists because its people speak a unique English restoration era dialect of American English hypothesized to be nearly unchanged since the days of its first occupation by English colonists in the late 1600s. Very cool!

Only people from Tangier, such as myself, reserve the right to say it looks crappy. We don't take kindly to people, especially some one from Israel, talking shit about our pretty little island. What if I said Israel should be bombed off the map, Would you like that?
