Susquehanna Township High School was the first ever recipient of the Apollo Award for Outstanding Musical Production at the Hershey Theatre on May 18th, 2009. Guys & Dolls was chosen out of five total nominated schools (14 total were registered for the Apollos), and we got two other nominations: Kelsee Sweigard (Adelaide) for Supporting Actress in a Musical, and Andrew Bowling (Sky Masterson) for Leading Actor in a Musical.

The nominees for Lead Actor in a musical sang a medley of features from their shows shortly after STHSs performance, as did the female nominees. Included is my performance of an excerpt from Luck Be A Lady.

2009 Guys & Dolls principal cast (in order of appearance):
Nathan Detroit - Dan Rosenthal
Lt. Brannigan - Marshall Hoskins
Miss Adelaide - Kelsee Sweigard
Angie the Ox - David Smith
Benny Southstreet - Chris Cook
Sky Masterson - Andrew Bowling
Sarah Brown (at Apollos) - Gabriella Vreeland
Sarah Brown (in the STHS production) - Lydia Hassell
Arvida Abernathy - Kait Perbetsky
Big Jule - Peter Baliira

This performance was accompanied by Bill Ingram, and the award was accepted by Andrew Bowling and Gabriella Vreeland. Guys & Dolls was directed by George Kell and Sally Bowman-Keaveny, and produced by Gail Markovitz and Silvia Perbetsky. Musical direction by Elizabeth Jacobs. Choreography by Paige Pavlishin.

The other cast you see onstage is East Pennsboros production of A Curious Savage, for which they received the Apollo Award for Outstanding Production of a Play. Included onstage is Taryn Sprenkle, the only double recipient of the night.

And no, we didnt know about the confetti cannons.

Enjoy the show, and support the arts. Without the love and support of our parents, teachers, friends, and community members, none of these productions (the school shows OR the Apollos) would be possible.
