from the album 154

LYRICS:
As a mutual friend it was difficult to pretend
That I was anything less than concerned

Hearing of your troubles
Has forced me to double
My interest in your current affairs

It's no use despising a new unknown horizon
Now your son has set his sights on the moon

So precipitous a decision has clouded your vision
And altered the pitch of your tune

Please don't turn a deaf ear to the noises you hear
While savagely your love you prune
For he might replace the old with the moon
He might replace the old with the moon

In March, April, May, and June
July, August, September, soon
He might replace the old with the moon
It could be October
November, or even December
So in January and February remember

He might replace the old with the moon
He might replace the old quite soon

  • @saintrobski I agree with you this song is pure poetry..unfortunately 154 is for me the only album of Wire I can listen

and listen since 30 years!! They had a creativity on this album they never found again.

Something "intemporel" like "Seventeen Seconds" of the Cure or "Rock Bottom" from Robert Wyatt...

  • one of my faves too- after outdoor miner & map ref

  • Fantastic song ! Thanks for sharing ! :))

  • @yoyo3man So tough to choose a favorite but this would be right up there.

  • @warmswarm - I don't know if it's coincidence but this brilliant track reminds me of early Roxy Music. Perhaps Andy Mackay played Oboe on this too. (I know he didn't really) Wire are up there with Roxy in my opinion.

  • Probably my favourite WIRE song.

  • Even after 31 years, this in my opinion is one of the best pieces of music you could ever hope to hear. There are NO better groups than Wire! :)

  • @coolxan1 Hey don't demonize me. I'm a fellow fan of Wire. I just don't understand why people like this have to comment like they do.
