When did we start thinking that TACTICAL fighter-bombers could do STRATEGIC bombing with their tiny payloads?

Was it because of air-to-air refueling that the TacAir aviators in the USAF and the USN delude themselves into thinking that they could bomb dams, power plants, factories, cities into submission with multiple sorties? Didnt anyone ponder that since strategic bombing didnt win WW2 with HEAVY BOMBERS as it forced the enemy underground, it CERTAINLY WOULDNT WORK with much smaller fighter-bombers. Strategic bombing HELPED the ground forces MANEUVER onto Berlin by slowing down the Nazi secret weapons development just enough so we could end the war by toppling the Hitler regime in the nick-of-time:

North Vietnam didnt even take us seriously until we sent B-52 heavy bombers en masse in 1972 Operation Linebacker II that at least got them to release our POWs. Imagine if instead of flying B-52s from Thailand or Guam they operated from Mobile Offshore Bases (MOBs) which would have huge 10, 000 foot runways to speed sortie generation

And didnt anyone think that MULTIPLE SORTIES of too-small, fighter-bombers attacking the same fixed targets again and again would result in SHOOT-DOWNS, deaths and our men captured as POWs?

If we were going to do gunboat diplomacy with the North Vietnames we needed to use GUNBOATS to do it—all 4 of our Iowa class battleships should have been recalled to duty and then sent to smash their ports and docks—just like the USS New Jersey and Missouri did to Wosin harbor in the Korean war:

U.S. battleships 16 inch long-range guns could have stopped war materiel coming in to fuel the North Vietnamese attack of the South through dispersed land infiltration routers along the Ho Chi Minh trail—WITHOUT EXPOSING ANY AMERICAN CREWMEN TO SHOOT-DOWNS.

So why were the battleships not called in?

BECAUSE THE U.S. NAVY WAS (AND STILL IS) RUN BY THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER MAFIA WHOSE RACKET IS TO PERPETUATE, THE BLOATED AND INEFFICIENT TAIL-HOOK/CATAPULT (CATBAR) FIGHTER-BOMBERS FROM TOO-SMALL FLOATING RUNWAYS.

The Top Gun pilot egos of folks like John McCain WANTED A PIECE OF THE (Vietnam) ACTION, and boy, did they get it! The human tragedy is that the Navy bureaucrats lust for power and greed for money coupled with pilot egomania resulting in DEFEAT and loss of South Vietnam to communist reunification by force.

Had the USN been more professional and selfless it would have not wasted most of its budget on the aircraft carrier racket and would have had the battleships ready to pummel North Vietnam to deny them outside war supplies if not submission and would have had an excellent SEAPLANE patrol force to scour and deny any leakers from entering South Vietnams waterways:

Consider TODAY, when a mere 4 Somali pirates seized a container ship captain and held him in a lifeboat for days while a USN destroyer sat by and DID NOTHING when he decided to save himself and jumped overboard! The Navys bureaucrats have turned our thin steel ships into horizontal, office buildings full of pussy office workers when they should be filled with WARRIORS with binoculars, long-range, scoped weapons and small boats who can nip terrorist problems in the bud—

not have to call in SEALs; which by the way--should have seaplanes to transport them rapidly to wherever they need to go:

  • unusual F-4 navy jungle camo

Did you see the indochina French Helldiver bombers? That's a part of the Vietnam air war nobody has heard of. Now they're flying tomcat-sized superbugs with even bigger price tags from super carriers to attack insurgents armed with ak-47s and rpgs.

  • I'm glad you brought this up! Apparently the USN toyed with green camouflage for ops over Vietnam...they should have done more R&D and painted their planes in some kind of "dazzle" paint so from the ground, NVA AAA optical gunners would have a harder time hitting the white plane, John McCains

  • @ilovepista The US & its regional allies intervened in the Vietnam War for good reason: to stop the spread of Communism in Vietnam and throughout Indochina and the rest of South-east Asia. The Domino Theory was no myth & experience & history had shown that there was good reason for thinking it valid at that time. 1945 to 1975 was the peak of the Cold War & confrontation between the West & the Communist bloc was vigorously pursued by both sides. Communism back then was a real & potent threat.

  • @Annehbui -- are you sick? Any way that a fights a large power is fair. Dirty plans and traps...I suggest you talk to some veterans of that war and ask them what they think of your statement. They probably have grudging respect for the enemy, who fought hard against the US, with all its technological superiority. I did four years in the US air force and was an F15 crew chief. Impressive up close, but useless against most current enemies

I can't believe you wrote that. It makes you look silly

  • @ilovepista

I think you're just jealous that America's military has stronger power than your military does.

  • HAHAHA i can only laugh at the americans cos they cant win a war yet LMAO

why were they so concerned with helping the vietnam people, anyway they only pick on the small and weak (poor) countries, if you look back in the passed you will see.

And dont say they won ww1 and ww2 cos they didnt do anything, the british (united kingdom) WON, we saved europe and the world

  • @Annehbui "dirty plans and traps" which means "fight an actual war" The US military used Agent Orange, S&D operations, permitted torture, ran Operation Phoenix, etc.

Colonial wars are always dirty and the incumbent government fights just as dirty.

  • @CharlieDoan all Power no will at top of chain of Command.

  • Americans are not born to fight against Vietcong for South Vietnam. If you want to blame, blame the Vietcong for their dirty plans and traps.

  • fucking so much Power??

Why lost south VN to VC hands?? friend don't trust a friend like American!
