On our way back from our Old Robe Canyon hike, we came across a group of whitewater kayakers who were getting ready to do a challenging stretch of rapids. See http://picasaweb.google.com/scottleibrand/OldRobeCanyon# for high-res copies of the still photos.
@paddleDR it's actually a pretty easy hike. A couple switchbacks to get down to the riverbed from up at the road, and then it's all flat, and not too far. There are some signs saying not to go that far in, but as long as you're not going when it's all slippery, and you know how to watch your footing, I'd say it's pretty safe for responsible adults.
