Here's a favorite Stephen Foster tune called Angeline the Baker, although over the years some have come to call it Angelina Baker. In any case, here is Graystone Bluegrass Revival performing the tune at a fundraiser for the Newcastle Senior Citizens Center in Newcastle, Oklahoma, in July of 2009. Enjoy!

  • Stephen C. Foster composed the song Angelina Baker in 1850. The original lyrics are: Away down on de old plantation, Dah's where I was born, I used to beat de whole creation Hoein' in de corn: Oh! den I work and den I sing So happy all de day. 'Til Angelina Baker came And stole my heart away. chorus Angelina Baker! Angelina Baker's gone, She left me here to weep a tear And beat on de old jaw bone. Angeline The Baker is a Bluegrass tune no older than the 1940s.
