Yes, beating Alain Prost no less. As well all know Prost was one of the all time greats, and I think Lauda narrowly beating him to the '84 time was his greatest ever achievement.

I was at the Montreal track when he retired that first time. What a disappointment! And they plunked in an Argentine rich kid in his place (Zunino) who went on to achieve nothing.

Agreed-now there was real guts to come back after his crash at a time when unlike today, you could easily be killed.

Lauda: the man who cam back from the dead to win the '77 F1 Championship (and come second in '76).
He also came out of retirement and bankruptcy to race for Ron Dennie in McClarent to win a further title in '84. What a racer.
