No, he is the only survivor from Crew 34 and he is an old man in the beginning! Then he finds his War Memories and remembers what happened, but he is old and his time has come and he dies, goes to heaven and spends the time with his crew(That is heaven for him) I get it like that. . .

@Supergirl101kickbutt well if he got medical attention fast enough he could have lived . . . there are alot of injuries in war that could/usually are fatal but luck, quick diangnosis and treatment save the soildier. also it might have hit his shoulder or some other un-vital area, so his only danger was bleeding to death, and the other soildeirs might have left him because they thought he was as good as dead. when reinforcements came they prbly brought a medical unit.
