@shad0wfyr3 This is kind of an old video but... I just freshly installed tf2, but when I spawn it freezes. I have -dxlevel 81
Specs:
Dell dimension 8400
2 GB RAM
3.0 GHZ Processor
200 GB hard drive
Raedon RV370 Video card
P.S I want to play full screen
-
TF2 deserves a Linux port in the first place. Instead, they're forcing people to spend time to make it run.
-
when i try to play it just exits HELP PLEASE
-
2fort is the only playable map
-
Thanks man. Thanks to you launch options, i can play team fortress without lags!
-
is that Ubuntu or Mac?
-
What specs have you got with your system?
I'm currently dual booting XP and Linux Mint Julia. I tried playing TF2 on Ubuntu a couple of years ago and got ir tunning but with poor FPS, even using -dxlevel 80.

Some directx 8 tips:
cl_newimpacteffects 1 // makes the new impact effects, like sparks and dirt kick up
mat_specular 1 // Makes ubers shiney.
Theres a few more, pm me if you want some other tips. I run Directx 8 to get way higher fps, and i make it look real good!

can you get vac banned when you run it on wine?
p990ias 2 years ago
perhaps, but I see no real reason as to what their reasoning would be. i've never been banned and i used this setup for a very long time.

@shad0wfyr3 attach something to the game process = vac ban
p990ias 2 years ago
@p990ias very interesting, thanks for the tip. if that's the case, then no, you won't get vac banned for that reason. wine is the thing that enables hl2.exe (tf2's actual executable) to run without windows. it is sort of a layer that simulates windows. the vac ban would be due to some other program attaching *to* hl2.exe, as opposed to a simulated operating system enabling hl2.exe to execute
