"20,000 drug possession inmates in Texas, zero in Oregon. Source: Marc A. Levin, Esq. Director, Center for Effective Justice"
Just goes to show the effect privatizing prisons has on the crime rate--gotta fill those beds, TX prison beds, that is.
The azalea contretemps is appalling. In Portland, OR, there is a rose museum--imagine the outrage that would erupt if they decided to dig up the 500 varieties of rose bushes because they have thorns! That would be a comparable.
I am The chairman of the Propagation committee of "The Great Gardens of America Preservation Alliance". We are an alliance of over 30 public Gardens and Universities working to preserve America's azalea and Camellia Collections. I have requested permission to be allowed to propagate the azaleas before they are destroyed and move the collection so it can be preserved. As of yet, The Arboretum has not been willing top discuss this. Can't understand not letting us preserve them before destruction
This is not a satire!!! It may sound like it is satire but it is NOT SATIRE. For background and facts search for "Save the Azaleas National Arboretum" and read. Plus, there is a new website recently designed and to dedicated to this issue with ideas on how to get involved in saving our Azaleas.
The person who made this decision must be fired from his position immediately. It is not possible for this person to understand the value of a garden or the treasure of the Arboritum. He should be permanently assigned to picking up the trash that fills the Anacostia and Potomac rivers
Once all the plants are removed these employees will have to seek employment elsewhere. No doubt they will find a happy home at HSA where they specialize in stupid decisions.
