This video depicts an all original 1976 FJ40 for sale by TLC.. It has been sitting for a long time inside of a garage here in Southern California. One owner since new. All original, time capsule condition. As found. Last driven in 1996. No modifications anywhere, not even a radio has been added, as it still has the super rare radio block off plate in the dash. 102K miles, believed to be original. When you look underneath it, and under the hood, that is hard to contest. Very dry conditions, some rust as shown. All original upholstery (what is left of it...). Runs very well, nice and smooth. We completed a major inspection of this truck, and that inspection report is available to any potential buyers. We decided to list this vehicle for sale in as found condition, to allow for a prospective buyer to decide what to do with it next. This truck could be restored dead stock, or appearing stock with major drive train updates with either our LS series aluminum V8 (auto or manual) or our bio-diesel compatible turbo diesel (22-26 MPG) conversion packages! You choose to have it done yourself, or have us complete any work from a basic service to a body-off restoration. We are a bit busy right now in our restoration and service departments, so instead of restoring it then offering it for sale, we thought we would see what you hand in mind for such a truck.
The 1976 FJ40 is considered by many to be one of the best years of the model. They were available in the US from 1959-1983, and although they look mostly the same, they are very different mechanically. The early years are charming but not very useful on modern roads or the freeway, with their more primitive systems designed for off road and lower speeds. 76 is the first year with the power disc brake system, the improved larger 2F six cylinder, the four speed transmission with synchromesh gears, and the two speed part time 4x4 transfer case. This year also has thicker sheet metal than the later years, which has proven to make them a bit more resilient.
Engine compression is excellent and as original (140-155 range). Fuel system has been serviced and cleaned out, so that vehicle will start and idle with ease. However, please do not expect to jump in it and drive off into the sunset. Since it has been sitting for almost fifteen years, many systems are too dry or too wet..., meaning one should expect there will be service work needed before the Cruiser is road worthy. I have driven it in our parking lot and it is quite nice, but it should get brake/cooling/tune up etc... before hitting the road. Feel free to call our Service Manager Jay Myers for further details at 818-785-2200.

I don't recall those chrome wheels, tires, and rear fender flares being original!
