K26 hovered over the egg all day yesterday through gale-force winds. Even when K10 brought her a fish to eat, she wouldn't leave the egg for more than a few seconds. She actually pushed him off the egg. She knew her chick was breaking through and that it was her duty to stay with it. This morning we get our first looks at this tiny miracle on Santa Cruz island.
You can read about the struggle to reintroduce America's symbol, the Bald Eagle, to the Channel Islands as well as watch this miracle of nature via live eagle-cam by going to http://www.iws.org and clicking first on 'interactive' and then choosing one of the 3 nests to view.... 2 are on Catalina Island and 1 on Santa Cruz Island or go to: http://z7.invisionfree.com/CHIL_EagleCAM/index.php?act=idx

I love the way she looks up for her mate as if to say, "Hey Honey, come meet your new son!" So precious and endearing. Thank you
