U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch, Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, today spoke on the Senate floor in advance of a vote on S.J. Res 10, a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) to the Constitution. Hatch is the lead sponsor of the BBA and it has garnered the support of all 47 Republicans in the Senate. The Senate is scheduled to vote on S.J. Res 10 tomorrow, Wednesday, December 13, 2011.

In his remarks, Hatch said that, "With spending at historic highs and going higher, and with interest on the debt taking up a larger and larger share of spending, we need to be very concerned as a nation that we are entering a debt spiral from which we will have a difficult time extricating ourselves." Hatch added that if the BBA was ratified by the states, "the government funded gravy train would come to an end."
