Mr. S.H. Lam's Martial Arts background in his own words:
In 1974, I started to learn martial art (kung fu) from Master Leung Ting-kam who specialized in "Snake Forms with Grasping Hands". I was trained for over 4 years and became senior student and his assistant tutor.
In 1980, I met Master Ip Tai Tak in the Inland Revenue Department of Hong Kong. At that time, he was my colleague in the same work place. Later, I was impressed by his Tai Chi kung fu and tried to challenge him with my "snake" kung fu. But I was defeated by his "parry with punch". I then asked Master Ip for his Tai Chi teaching. He accepted but he advised me to forget all external martial arts learnt. I started to learn Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan from Master Ip every working day during lunchtime in the filing room and pushing hands inside the washroom. I completed the Tai Chi Form very quickly in about 3 months.
In 1981, Master Ip was transferred to other section of Inland Revenue and I also left the Department. We then lost contact for over 10 years. Till 1993, I searched for his contact telephone and finally I met him again to resume my Tai Chi Chuan training learning with him every weekend and, also I began to practise with H.K. Chan on Sundays.
Up until 2004, I had been intensively trained in Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan, chi-kung, pushing hand, sword, broadsword, and spear and boxing applications.
The last day I met Master Ip and pushed hand with him was on the23rd April 2004. Master Ip passed away on the 25th April 2004 and left me many deep memories. I will always remember what he taught me of Tai Chi kung fu.
