It actually overtook Coronation St in the ratings in 1987.

Great to see Croydon in the 70s. Apart from East Croydon Station, which has grown massively, it really hasn't changed much! I love Croydon!

Ha, some things never change - because of office moves, I'm temporarily having to commute out to Croydon work in the funny shaped building at 0:14! It actually looks OK when the sun comes out. Of course, it's Croydon, so that doesn't happen very often...

its easy to take the piss out of shows like this, one foot in the grave and my family etc but they got 10 million viewers or whatever. i used to love this show as a kid, not everybody wants to watch depressing shows like eastenders or stuff with non-stop shagging and drugs. and not everybody has a life like you see on shameless.

Terry Scott's looking for June acting is a lot better than hers. She looks like she's simply regarding Croydon.

@Marmiteums His hair wasn't dyed.

Terry died young, and was plagued with ill health. Such a shame.
-
Anyone got the theme to their other sitcom, 'Happy Ever After?'
-
I've never read this anywhere but I'm pretty certain that when Terry Scott died June Whitfield received a lot of messages of condolence from people who thought that she was married to Terry Scott in real life.

it appealed to the safe middle class market in the same way The Good Life did. Even the house they lived in was similar.
Wander round Croydon in a blazer and tie these days and someone will probably cut your face off.

Bloody hell croydon in them days looks way different to now, i went to croydon college last year and tbh croydon is a bit of a shit hole now, just looks so so different there than it does now, looks nice but i guess the country as a whole was probably nicer then, not the shit hole it is today
