The Military 'Top Brass' of that time didn't have much compassion or education in the psychological affects of warfare on young men. WW1 destroyed a generation of young men. There was many miscarriage of justices during this era, especially the case of Breaker Morant whom was executed simply as an appeasement to the Boars to end the war amicably.
