im using a fenwick hmx 9 1/2 foot rod.

I think there is a problem here. He is doing everything right except one thing. As the line goes further down he needs to lower his rod. So cast and follow the line as the current pulls it as soon as its below you start lowering your rod. This will make a bait/jig/fly swing and 90 percent of the time fish will bite on the swing. So he did this the first time he had the fish on, he was following the line and then lowering the rod as the line was going lower. Snagging is a no no.

@TimothyKusherets Of course, all of the great stuff always happens off camera ; )
I try to get one friend to re-enact the funny things we just said, and he says, "Nope, it's not the same when you re-do it." You can't win. You can roll three strikes in a row, then think about turning on the camera, where follows three gutter balls. Indeed, filming is a lot of fun ; )

In this particular case it's called "gliding". Where the weight of the terminal gear comes within contact of the river bed occasionally. The technique you describe is something done for waters with swifter currents. It's mentioned in my book.

do you use fluro for your main line or just leader
bassinoregon7 10 months ago
@bassinoregon7 I use highly-invisible mono; usually 2 pounds or less than the mainline, which is also mono.

@actionadventures I know. How cool is that? He drifed into one on the very first drift. Mike, the guy in the video, hooed into a lot of fish that day...off camera.

We call this kind of fishing, bottom bouncing,,,, weight on the end of the line with the fly or bait 4 inches from the bottom,,, works great for brown trout and rainbows on any river in Utah and Idaho.... I still think the best lure out there is the mepps algia long #3 but you take the color off the body and the plastic cover off the hook,, then you do the chucky bend on the spoon,, best lure ever for browns, it will also out fish any fly,, I tested it to perfection, you got to have the bend

@KidsKicksforChrist You describe a good setup for spinner fishing, which doesn't require any added weight like that done for traditional drift fishing. I love fishing with Aglia's too.
