Во время учебы в Консерватории Рахманинов создал партитуру, для которой в консерваторском оркестре не хватало инструментов. Композитор сам исполнил ее фортепианную версию и отдал ноты Чайковскому, о чем сообщил в письме, датированном 1981 годом. Следы партитуры потерялись на более чем сто лет, а обнаружились лишь в наши дни, в архиве Музея им.Глинки, в фонде профессора Московской консерватории Александра Зилоти, который был педагогом Рахманинова. На рукописи не значились ни название произведения, ни его автор. Но специалисты установили, что рукопись принадлежит именно Рахманинову и что это и есть та самая потерянная фортепианная версия сюиты ре минор. Второе ранее не известное публике сочинение Рахманинова, найденное в архиве -- фуга ре минор. Александр Рахманинофф, внук великого композитора и хранитель фамильного наследия Рахманиновых, доверил Денису Мацуеву сделать первую запись архивной партитуры. Запись была сделана в мае 2007 года на швейцарской вилле «Сенар», где Рахманинов жил с 1929 по 1940 годы. Специально для записи был восстановлен рояль «Steinway» 1928 года -- как известно, Рахманинов был большим поклонником и популяризатором этой фирмы, и «Steinway» преподнесли ему инструмент в подарок. Продюсером CD Дениса Мацуева «Unknown Rachmaninoff» стал лауреат премии «Grammy» Филипп Недель.


While studying in the Conservatory Rachmaninoff created a score which could not be performed because of the lack of instruments in the Conservatory orchestra. The composer executed the piano version himself and passed the script to Tchaikovsky, which was mentioned in a letter dated 1981. The trace of the score was lost for more than a century and was found only several years ago in the archive of the Glinka museum, in the collection of professor Siloti, Rachmaninoff's professor. The manuscript bore the name neither of the composition, nor of the author. But the experts established that it was made by Rachmaninoff and that it was the very lost piano suite D minor. Alexander Rachmaninoff, the grand-son of the great composer and the keeper of the Rachmaninoff family heritage, entrusted Denis Matsuev with the first record of the archival score. The record was made in May 2007 on the villa "Senar" in Switzerland, where Rachmaninoff lived in years 1929-1940. Especially for the record they restored the "Steinway" piano made in 1928 -- it is a well-known fact that Rachmaninoff was a big "Steinway" fan and popularizer, and the company gave him the instrument as a gift. Denis Matsuev's CD "Unknown Rachmaninoff" was produced by the "Grammy"-awarded Philipp Nedel.

Непонравилось слушать Дениса, при прослушивании приходится дорисовывать фразировку, потому что он совершенно неиспользует широкую палитру фортепианной динамики, а она позволяет донести до слушателя практически полную имитацию оркестра. Конечно допускаю, что текст был отточен не до конца, но нормальный уважающий себя музыкант не прогнется под комерсантов и не выйдет на публику с голым текстом. Лучше бы он играл с ошибками, но при этом с правильной фразировкой. А так получился обычный шарманщик..

Le partitura è stata trovate di recente. L'originale versione orchestrale era stata scritta come un esercizio di formazione, ma accantonata a causa della mancanza di adeguate forze nell’orchestra del conservatorio, per questo Rachmaninov creò la versione per pianoforte solo.
