Now that researchers in fields such as archaeology, population genetics and history have cast overwhelming doubt on Joseph Smith's claims about where the Book of Mormon came from, what do modern apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have to say? See for yourself in this video contrasting a Mormon apostle's proclamation about the Book of Mormon in general conference with statements produced by the Smithsonian, National Geographic Society and a former professor of anthropology at Yale.

  • The AAA uses the book to show the thinking of the times. One professor sites it as myth. Look it up, I found it. It's all bullshit Joseph Smith was a good story teller, as well as plagiarism. Most of the crops Joesph wrote of in the BoM were all European plants, except corn. It all bs, sorry. Even if Jesus told you it was a lie, you would still believe. Maybe he's trying to tell you people but you refuse to listen.

Actually, if it's the Book of Mormon you're referring to, many, many professors have implied it is not true. And you're right that this doesn't matter to many "true believing Mormons".

  • Did the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints know that members are "leaving in droves?" a woman asked.

"We are aware," said Jensen, according to a tape recording of his unscripted remarks. "And I'm speaking of the 15 men that are above me in the hierarchy of the church. They really do know and they really care," he said.

  • @iqlusionblogspot They use the Book of Mormon to show how white Americans viewed the Native people, as one of the lost tribes of Israel. This theory was very popular in Joesph Smith's time. Look it up on their web site.

  • Yes Facts are being cited all the time, by someone, somewhere...but not by you.

Again, and just to be clear, The Title (that strip over the top above the video box) is inaccurate (that means not alluding to what is being discussed and with whom). As Monty Python pointed out, contradiction ("they are not descended from Jews") is not argument.

Not politically correct? Nor factually provable scientifically, which is why they dropped it.

  • @bomac10000 Facts are being cited all the time. Like DNA analysis on native Americans. They are not descended from Jews. The Kinderhook plates. I have read what the "Book of Abraham" actually says in Egyptian and what it is. Of course the Smithsonian had to retract their statement. It's not politically correct. A full list of evidence is a mile long or more. It's less work to just ignore it all.

  • @sjcottsi What fact do you feel was cited? Were you aware that the Smithsonian has withdrawn that statement and no longer issues it? Official response is they have no response..

  • The title {above) is factually inaccurate. Where in the video does he state that he is addressing scientists and other "scholars"? Amazing what an incorrect perception a few words in the right place can make.

  • Truth to some people is just what they want to believe. Argument by citing facts is futile.

  • God restored to the truth because one boy had faith that his father would tell him what he should do. And because of his faith we have the fullness of the gospel again. It is so sad to watch the children of men dwindle in unbelief because for thousands of years evil men changed the truth, and now men just believe what those men wanted them too. THESE THINGS have happened repeatedly since Adam and Eve, but STILL men say it didn't happen this time. It is heartbreaking.
