Lion cubs part 1
Host: And also from Magdeburg the twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz from Tokio Hotel. Welcome. And since we now have human twins here these animal quadruplets are not far from the concept. A basket is their waiting room and the zoo veterinarian Michael Böhr their paediatrist. His patients names are Karla, Mara, Baral and Kimba. These young lions were slightly underweight the first weeks after their birth therefore Böhr vets them nearly every day.
Böhr: The little lions are now 8 weeks old and they are getting an immunization and besides that they have to be dewormed.
Host: Böhr is a veterinarian in the Serengeti Park; he makes the cubs ready for being able to move into the wild when they are old enough. And if the medicine doesnt taste he makes it tasteful. The condition of the lions has stabilized and they are even ready for their first TV show. Welcome to the lions and also to Professor Micheal Böhr form the Serengeti Park. Mr. Böhr, between us, you are a vet, are you able to tell who is who?
Böhr: Yes, its possible to tell the difference by the pattern of their fur.
Host: But you would have to spend some time with them to be able to tell which of them are Karla, Mara, Baral and Kimba. One is standing behind me at the moment.
Böhr: Yes he is curious already.
Host: Is he planning a carrier as TV host? You never know. Could I, is it OK if I take him?
Böhr: Yes, yes you can do that. They are still in an age where they dont bite.
Host: Oh my desk is a bit slippery, that's not good.
Böhr: Just hold on to him. Its going to be alright.
Host: I have to be careful not that he jumps down from my desk. That woud hurt him wouldnt it?
Böhr: Well, it would hurt a bit but not much.
Host: How old are these lions. They have to be very young since I dare to touch them. That is a sign of them still being very young.
Böhr: They are exactly 8 weeks old.
Host: And after all not much can happen with such young animals.
Böhr: No, no, they wont kill you.
Host: Thanks for the advice. For how long will they remain harmless? From which point is it dangerous to be around them?
Böhr: When their weight is about 60-70kg and they are about as heavy as human adults. Then they may try to check out their strength.
Host: Very charming how you misestimate my weight.(laughing) Well, I would say, me holding him is one thing, but what about you Bill?
Bill: Oh, how cute isnt that? Oh God! Hello!
Host: Tom you can also have one.
Tom: But this isnt the aggressive one is it?
Host: Exactly, Tom is getting the aggressive one. One of them is difficult to train. We dont know exactly which. (laughing) But they are exceptionally cute, arent they?
Bill: They are so cute.
Tom: Yes they are so cute and so soft. But when they are becoming teenagers, when they get into puberty they are getting hard to control.
Böhr: Yes, of course it is already getting hard when they are four to five months old. Then it's getting problematic.
Host: Now, some may be wondering: Where is the mother of these lions and why are they not with her?
Böhr: Normally they are with their mother. Their mother is three years old and gave birth to these lions under normal circumstances, but it was her first delivery. (Bill: can I just let him go off?) And after a while we noticed that they were not growing like they should. So we started weighing them regularly and came to the conclusion that the mother probably doesnt have enough milk to feed them. Now we take care of them by feeding them some milk and weighing them regularly. Because of that we able to bring them here today. They have had some contact with people already. Still they are raised by their mother normally except for 2-3 hours were they are taken away from her. They are and will always be wild animals.
Host: Is there a risk that if they are with people for too long of a period that their mother wont accept them as her children anymore? Because they smell different or something like that.
Böhr: In this age that would never happen. The bond between mother and children is so strong that you can part them from their mother for a while. Female lions in the wild go hunting for several hours and they still recognize their children when they return.
Host: But there are no human there.
Böhr: That's right. The bond between them is so intensive that the mother will notice that someone else has touched her children but that doesnt mean that she will abandon them.
Host: Today we have multiple TV. We have quads and twins.
Tom: I am just wondering. Have they been on the toilet today?
Bill: Because we had, I had, really it is Because once we, I made a photo with a little monkey. And suddenly something flowed down my shoulder.
