this week's topic: how would/did i tell my family about a desire to surgery/hormones without the "justification" of fully transitioning?

first off, i am super close with my family so that has made everything pretty darn smooth. i am extremely grateful for that. it took me a while to come out to them as queer, but then we got closer. it took me even longer to talk to them about changing my name / genderqueer stuff, but then that opened the flood gates and now we can talk about gender stuff honestly and openly. i had been looking into getting a reduction for many years so when i finally wanted to do it / look into top surgery, it was not a problem talking to my parents. the only real obstacle between myself and top surgery at this point is sadly the money factor.

i also talk about coming out as genderqueer / male-pronoun preferring to my classmates at grad school and heading to gender odyssey this weekend!!!

  • -That's a really neat school story. Hooray!

-UC Davis has put trans insurance into the undergrad student plan, which is awesome! Strict Benjamin standards, and they might require hormones before surgery, and two letters. But it's a start!

-It's great that you have such a good relationship with your parents. :)

-So my conclusion from this week is, I think parents first have to understand what genderqueer is before any medical option discussion or else it'd be really confusing. Gotta work on that.

  • yeah i completely hear you. nobody can know except us. and even then, sometimes people aren't 100% sure but after going back and forth and back and forth for years the pros start to outweigh the cons. at least that's a pattern i have noticed. and more than that, sometimes you think you know something for sure and then your body tells you how you really feel. tricky stuff for sure...

  • yeah its hard to listen to what your body says when it speaks up. do you know what you are going to do? did you like his giant purple and yellow fuzzy chair?

  • hehe.

  • I was totally the first one to watch this.
