@smtwtfs53 yeah, someone who beat up a black man who was congratulating him just cause he felt that man wasn't allowed to be at the same talking level as him. That totally makes him "not a bad person."
Get your head out of your ass. Being a good athlete doesn't translate to being a good person.

@Watersnake777 - My guess Watersnake is because Tyrus was such a horrible human being. His amazing baseball achievements aside, people hate him mainly because he was the devil incarnate. On and off the field. Would've loved to see him play though...

what is this crap, other than an excuse to run ads? what bullshit
-
Why did people hate the man who used his great ability to accomplish what he was paid to do? If the opposition couldn't keep up with him, that's their problem.

I am honored to say I am related to this great man! He inspired me to start playing baseball when I was young. James R. Cobb III

@TheBatugan77 Agreed. To me Ruth is the greatest ever simply because he was a great pitcher and THEN put up historic hitting numbers. It's like A-Rod winning 20 games as a pitcher, world series pitcher and then hitting 100 HR's in a season (yes - that was the equivelent then when Ruth was hitting 50 and 60 compared to the rest of league. Ruth was hitting more hr's in a season than most teams! and a .342 avg. Insane.

Cobb was the first player to swing multiple bats before stepping up to the plate. He also remains the only American Leaguer to lead in homers and stolen bases in the same season.Another relatively unknown fact about Cobb is that he patented a cork handled bat around 1913 that was used by the Louisville Slugger folks until around 1931 or so.

Cobb was good. Real good.
But Ruth was way better. WAAAAYYY better. Way-hay-hay-hay-HAYYYYY better!
Simple as that!
Thanks for putting that together,.....Cobb was and probably always WILL be the greatest and most misunderstood ball-players who ever graced the field. Many of his records still stand,.....in SPITE of today's physical training programs and performance enhancing drugs.
And for the record,....he wasn't as bad a person as most uneducated fans and wanna-be fans like to think he was,.....he just refused accept second best, and disliked anyone who did.

Cobb was timed at 3.4 seconds from home to first and 13.8 seconds around the bases which is outstanding 100 years later.
