www.historicjewelleryreproduction.co.uk Mike Shorer is a 7th generation Goldsmith. This film provides an insight into how he makes reproduction jewellery, from moulds of artifacts that his father made over a 40 year period. The moulds come from famous finds discovered in Britian and around the world. They include the famous ship, the Mary Rose, Saxon burial mounds, the Sutton Hoo treasure , the Snettisham and Ipswich Torcs, which are massive necklaces made from twisted gold wire. They have all been copied in minute detail so that they can be made into exact reproductions.
The exact copies of these historical pieces come from the original finds. They are unique because the company Mike Shorer took over from his father, Peter Shorer, has moulds taken directly from artifacts at the British Musuem and other museums around the world. The technique of RTV or Room Temperature Vulcanising using rubber is the specialist part of the whole process. The next stage involves creating a copper electroform grown into the mould taken from the original artifact. This is then used to make a master pattern for lost wax casting. This means each piece of jewellery is an exact copy of the original piece.
The extensive range of artifacts come from a range of history, Ancient Egypt, Iron Age, Bronze Age, Anglo Saxon, Romano British, Celtic, Medieval, Far Eastern and South American
From original, priceless treasure trove artifacts made from bronze, copper, silver and gold, Mike makes affordable pieces that any history buff, collector or jewellery enthusiast can enjoy - you can actually own a piece of history. With an increasing interest in buying jewellery of this type, demand is being met by this historic company that makes history you can buy and wear. The company is also able to supply film and TV production with period jewellery and design and manufacture items for sci-fi and fantasy films.
Mike Shorer has been working as a jeweller for over 35 years and he has made and worked on jewellery for customers that include the Queen, the Duchess of York, Elton John, Pink Floyd and De Beers. His other business, providing a bespoke jewellery service, means he is ideally suited to making replica historical pieces. With the help of brilliant craftsmanship and reproduction skills learnt over many years, each brooch, bracelet, necklace and ring are all made to the high standards that you would expect from a British Goldsmith.
