  • KILLER ALTO'S.

    hot damn.

  • I am black* but comely, daughters of Jerusalem, Therefore have I pleased the Lord And he hath brought me into his chamber.

(*)Nigra = 'black' or alternatively, 'swarthy'. In the Song of Songs, it is made clear that the woman who speaks these words has been working in the fields and considers herself unbecomingly tanned.

  • @divinas101 my choir (Cantores in Ecclesia) went to Spain on a tour back in '05 and we sang this at Monsterrat. It was a wonderful, wonderful experience!

  • @Tifroggie I found the original text in Latin, and translated into English. Terra means "our land", and terrat means "the earth's".

Nigra sum, sed formosa, filiae Jerusalem.

Ideo dilexit me rex et introduxit me in cubiculum suum et dixit mihi:

    Surge, amica mea, et veni.

Jam hiems transiit, imber abiit, et recessit.

    Flores apparuerunt in terra nostra,

    Tempus putationis advenit

Vox turturis audita est in terra nostra.

  • I'm catalan and "nigra sum" is the colour of our black virgin: Montserrat. It's the most important Virgin in Catalonia and you can found it in the Montserrat's Mountain near Barcelona

  • @Tifroggie It's longer ago than I care to recall, but I remember it as "terrat nostra" from my choral days, myself. Only difference I noticed them doing from what I remember is that it sounded like they said "putationis" with both the Ts pronounced as Ts instead of the second one sounding like an S.

  • Wow, beautiful sounding alto section. Just wow.

  • DOES I SMELL NIGRA!?

  • The girls nailed it! Wait.. near the end, isn't it supposed to be "terra nostra" rather than "terrat nostra"?
