Hydroplane Scratch

rubbing your finger on the record like a conga player would do on the skin of a drum to get that "rrrrrr" sound. It helps when your fingertip is moist.

In this case, notice the one handed forward hydroplane we call "the burnz"

  • Thanks for posting these! I own the DVD but it has such a poor menu system that its actually easier to watch it on youtube then watch it on the tv...

  • yeah, i agree, the menu and navigation system is really poor. Someone didnt upload these yet, so i decided to do them myself lol

  • Lame ~

    :)

  • what the fuck, one handed! thats actually mad =/

  • how u do it

  • precision and record control.

  • im guessing its like if you where playing a conga or bongo.. you lightly hold the record with both hands and finger tips. you want just enough friction on your finger tips so it bounces minimally creating that staggered sound. If you have sweaty palms like me it shouldnt be hard.

  • Sure I agree, its not the coolest thing ever but it is pretty neat. Ive been able to do hydros for awhile but I just thought of different combos that could be done with a one handed one (in terms of fader work).

  • lol. The key is knowing that you will eventually get it with practice. Try being as light-handed as possible and work from there.

If you can do it backwards you must know the difference your finger makes being sticky or not. To be honest tho, its not such an impressive scratch. I guess it could be if it were combined with a transform or flare perhaps...

  • Oh a simple case... Im not that heavy handed but I cant pull it off to save my life... LOL

  • Lick the rubbing finger (in this case, the right middle finger). It'll create more resistence. Then, its simple a case of rubbing the record on th forward motion without being too heavy handed.

  • Btw how is he doing these one handed? Can anyone explain?
