Over six hours of real time boredom compressed into nearly five minutes of time lapsed boredom.
(I needed something to do while i was stuck reading tvtropes.org)

This video demonstrates the land shaping possibilities in Wurm Online. Just me, my small cart, and a shovel carving a mountain lookout post out of a hill.

Sadly, there are a few minutes missing, as my camera alt got killed by aggressive creatures twice without me noticing.

No he did not. Firstly it would be stealing from himself, secondly Minecraft is about as far away from Wurm as you can get.

You really shouldn't talk about things you know nothing about.

  • @genossemzk From a technical standpoint, the vertices used to create the terraforming process in your video can be described as small blocks. The game also has elements of crafting, building, and digging. The biggest differences would be the mesh smoothing using to illustrate the rolling landscapes, the skill system, and the fact that it takes for fucking ever to do anything. Far from being far away.

  • @notEisiger And, of course, that the technology behind it is completely different, the game design philosophy is the diametral opposite, the fact that wurm uses a simple heightmap for terrain instead of voxels..which, by the way, means that no, "the vertices" can not be "described as small blocks". If that was true, tunnels would be possible in wurm's terrain without the mine hack.

The only similarities are that spiders are mean, there's terrain, and that there is java and opengl involved.

  • I really want to make a Wurm clone that isn't built in Java at some point during my life. The game has so much potential, but it's really stunted by some factors.

  • @The111DooD

Java definitely isn't stunting Wurm. Technical debt definitely, but the language is one of the things ensuring very good cross platform compatibility.

  • wurm looks boring, but then you try it lol

  • @zs500 when?! :p

  • At first Wurm was a wee bit... empty. But then /V/ Populated it.

  • Notch was in the making of Wurm, HA!

  • @TheHeakes Wrong, since he participated in the development of this game.

    Research before attempting to troll.

  • notch stole this idea

  • This game has so many great ideas

but its a piece of shit

  • Why do you all care so much about Minecraft and Notch and that CRAP? It's two games, maybe something reminds of something in the other game, but what the HELL does it matter? It's not even called "Steal", it's called "Being inspired." Gararararar..

  • @TheHeakes youre a fucking idiot notch was the lead programmer on the game

  • @The111DooD I think you would have some difficulty createing a wurm clone that is not in java. And why make a wurm clone when there is one already out there? albiet that it isn't completely finnished yet but it was at one time with the old server and is well on its way with the new server.
