This is the LP every serious funk collectors are looking for. Coordinated by Jean Claude Pierric and some secret weapons (Joel Dayde, Eric Leton..), evey tracks are gifted by the god of groove. More various than Harlem P.T, the musical spectrum ranges from blaxplo/chase theme/funky orchestra tracks ("Koun'toukoupak", the baad bass of "Chut Bebe Dort", "Pas Un Brin de Vent") to typical french scat ("Dans C'cas La Oui", "Reveil Matin"), massive hip hop beats ("Perdigouna", "La Tete Qui Bout") and of course these easy jazz funk arrangements with superb electric piano moments JC Pierric is well known for ("Retour De Flamme", "Un Bouquet De Cerise"). But the major thing with Godchild, similar to every great albums, is that you like it more and more after every listening.

In 2002 the Godchild album got a deserved re-release on Kid Loco's Royal Belleville label. This re-issue also contains tracks by Kid Loco reworking the original source material.
Here's a welcome concept: Take an obscure sound library-type recording made in Europe circa early to mid '70s, reissue it with a disc of remixes by some DJ hotshot circa 2002. That's essentially what you get with Kid Loco v/s Godchild. Originally released in France circa '75, Godchild is an enjoyable albeit not particularly cinematic jazz funk excursion. Guitars, bass and drums are joined by trumpets, trombones, sax, piano and the occasional electric accordian. The remix disc is something of a let down. The individual tracks aren't bad -- actually they're quite funky -- but there are only three of them. If three is all the Kid could come up with, perhaps he should have invited a few friends to contribute tracks, as well. It's a cool concept. Let's hope more labels and DJs take the initiative to do more.
