Hi all,

I fitted some wheels to the generating set today so it could be moved outside.

The engine is a 1928 Villiers WX11 LZH from an Aerograph compressor set, it's a very early engine of it's type. The dynamo is a 1939 Mawdsley that produces 12Vdc at 1500rpm and has a maximum current draw of 25AMPs. The drive ratio is 2:1 so the engine runs at 750RPM.

I am still waiting on the delivery of my 12V bulbs but I will show you it running some lights as soon as I can.

Enjoy....

  • Looks and sounds good, I do like that dynamo.. :-)

  • Cheers, a dynamo like that would go well with your Lister Diesel.

  • If you turn the dynamo pulley down a bit,you will increase its revs a little without needing to rev the engine more.

  • Well I do need to keep the engine reving or it will bog down on load, these engines were meant to run at 1000rpm+ and need to be somewhere near to work well, especialy on a dynamo!

  • Well thats about what I got mine for, and that was cheap by the standards of these things!

You never know, another will no doubt turn up now....

  • @steamwally I should have bought it, nobody knows anything about them over here!! It sold for $250 US. that's about 159 quid eh!!☺

  • Cheers! Well they sell for between £200-£300 on average but I should think a lot more on your side of the pond, very nice engines and if you can get it, don't hesitate!

  • Thanks Dan, see you tomorow :)

  • Looking really nice that looks grand :)

  • Good stuff Mate!! I just had a chance to buy a real nice WX11 at an auction but wasn't sure what it was worth!! they're pretty rare over here. I made a video of it and will post it soon!!☺
