August 1-3, 2008, the nation's first Littoral Combat Ship, Freedom (LCS 1), undergoing high speed test during Builder's Sea Trials for the first-in-class coastal surface combatant. The first trials for the agile 378-foot Freedom, designed and built by a Lockheed Martin led industry team, are being conducted in Lake Michigan.

@BeatsByWeight - Without those Ships of War Freedom wouldn't exist. Check the United States Navy's record, they are always their first for natural disasters. The Tsunami's, Earthquakes, you name it our ships are their for everything from food to medical care and everything in between. These small ships are true protectors, defending ships and shores where their big sisters butt heads with major enemy forces.

@TFOKillSwitch - Thanks. Has the US Coast Guard, as far as you know and could tell me, ever discovered floating mines near the coastline? Does the danger exist that such mines could be laid down by non-military ships (any type of current small boat)?
