@cutlerylover Hey jeff do you prefer a lansky sharpening system or a lansky crock stick set? Which do you find gives a finer edge?

@redneckclubmember7 get the gatco version of this you get better stones and a step by step instruction kit

I must have watched every single knife sharpening video on YouTube before I decided which one I was going to buy. I chose the Lansky because it looked to be easier for a beginner with the angle guides.
I just got finished trying it out on my first knife. It totally destroyed it. I went with the 25 degree slot. You can't use the 20 or 17; you end up grinding the clamp.
I ended up with a 1/2 inch bevel on one side and a 1/8 inch bevel on the other side of my knife. Uneven down the blade. =(

whats the best kit for making the knife really sharp?

@Fretfeeler LOL! Same here!

I like my Lansky.

This is exactly the sort of thing I need. My hands never stop shaking. Some days it's so bad that keeping a consistent angle on my stones is impossible, so sharpening my knives is kind of impossible, too. Thanks for the video! :)

Jeff, I just wanna say thanks for recommending the Lansky Sharpening system. Just picked one up the other day, and it's gotten my knives the sharpest they've ever been. It really is a great system, and it works great. With the 5 different stones, you really can get a near razor-sharp edge on your knives, and it's hard to fuck it up. Thank you!

I love my edge pro wont switch them for any lesser design for untimate angle precision and quality. USA only no China's temperary it will last you equipments. Only thing I doubt about is their stone quality. An excellent imported stone runs easy over 200 a pop.

@AlexCell33 Holy shit hulk lol I sharpend over 100 times on mine i love it.
I believe the angles, that model is older, but on my newer one if its the same the angles are 25 on the top and 20 on the bottom.
Why do you think the Lansky is better than smiths?

just the stone quaolity, alot of companies make these type of kits, but the only important part of it is the quality of the stones...just my opinion, like a blade ona knife, theres alot of good stuff like ergos and looks, but if that blade doesant perform well you wont use the knife too often...

I prefer Smiths to Lansky's (at least on the new models) because the stones are wider on Smiths.
Of course, none of these no matter who they are made for work well on blades with recurves, but I like the wider stones on a smiths, since I have the Diamond stones, I find the quality of them good. They are nice and thick, with impregnation all the way through them, not just on the top. The interrupted surface is nice as well. I have used them both, and to me the only difference is the width.

thats why I like the serrated stone, I cna sharpen my recureved blades easily with it, it sucks for serrations though, go figure...

Yeah i got this and it worked pretty well and it got a nice edge but i was putting a knife in the clamp and i tightened it down and the tip of the clamp snapped. So now im considering getting the Spyderco sharpmaker.
