An ALIE Project from Austria in Authentic Learning:
BUILDING A BUS STOP
The students of the LFS Kobenz, a vocational school for agriculture and forestry in Styria/Austria have to do their project days before the finish school. The students have to bring their own ideas for a project in their last grade. The project should not only take place in the school, the students should get in close contact with industry or with communities.
The students you will see in the following video decided to plan and build a little bus stop on a rural area for the community. The project started in January. The students had to prepare the project on their own. The teacher had the role of an expert or a coach. In this phase of the project (from January to April) the students should learn to organize themselves, to communicate with each other and with project partners. It was a very important aim that the students were to learn how to take responsibility.
The realisation of the project took place within 5-7 days in the beginning of May. The students brought their concept into practice. The Project was ended with the presentation of the finished bus stop to the project owner, the local government.
