In theaters: July 1, 2009
Starring Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Jason Clarke, Rory Cochran
In the action-thriller Public Enemies, acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the story of legendary Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger (Depp)—the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoovers fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public. No one could stop Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone—from his girlfriend Billie Frechette to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillingers gang—later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi)—thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaws capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger Americas first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing Clark Gable of the FBI. However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals—from the infamous Lady in Red to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti—were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.

Damn right its a badd ass movie. I believe Johnny Depp played the perfect John Dillinger. Only think Inaccurate about this movie is that Baby Face nelson in real life was killed few years after Dillenger. All in all, I rate this as one of Depps best movies right up there with the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Also like how he suggested the thompson submachine guns be fired like an assault rifle which they were made for anyway before the term assault rifle was even thought of and termed.

Who gives a flying fuck how much the movie grossed its first week. If you like the fucking shit, good...If not, move on with your piece of shit life. It's a bad ass movie, showing an event of Dillinger's life. It's a movie, not everything is going to be fully true. Watch it and move the fuck on with your life. Quit the youtube bitching about every little fucking thing possible. God, these cornball human beings are so fucking annoying. Can't even read some reviews w/o seeing bullshit comments.

25 million on the opening weekend is not really considered that much anymore.

And even if the film was relatively successful in box office terms (at least temporarily), word of mouth quickly put an end to the film's run in theaters.

Put simply, it's an OK film, but it's a bad Michael Mann film. Coming from the man responsible for Miami Vice, Heat and Collateral, frankly speaking, one has the right to expect the best.

And Public Enemies doesn't even come close to that.

I did more or less know these things, as probably .001 percent of the earths population are best friends with Johnny Depp. And no I do not equal self worth with being famous, but when I stated that this film was more successful than you, it was in response to your comment, "It SUCKS!!!! I just wanted to share that with y'all. Fuck this film". I was trying to remind you that if the movie made $25,271,675 on it's opening weekend, they must be doing something right.

You don't know any of these things. You are presuming that I'm not famous, that people don't pay money to see me and that I'm not the best of friends with Johnny Depp.

I'm none of these things, that's true, but you were stupid to take that for granted.

Oh, and another thing I'm not: I'm not as shallow as you, since you seem to equal personal self-worth and integrity with being famous and successful.

I'd feel sorry for you if it weren't for the fact that you're too delusional to feel pity.
