Mountain guides Martin Moran and Martin Welch from NW Scotland were running ice climbing courses for Martin Moran Mountaineering in Aurland Feb 2010. After the prolonged freeze in Norway that winter they found that the famous Vettisfossen was frozen... so on their day off from climbing ice with clients they climbed the 275m free falling icefall.
Spooky, scary, surreal... bonkers, boggling and just plain outrageous! was what they felt.
Hats off to the others who climbed it before them that winter and the first ascentionists in the 70's!
