Collecting host root tissue from the rhizomes of Hyobanche in a sand dune ecosystem involves a lot of digging - probably the easiest digging of the sort for any species of Hyobanche aside from H. robusta, which occurs along the south coast in the Eastern Cape. The primary host plant is Metalasia - I said Elytropappus on the video, but that's because I couldn't remember the name of Bloombos. This particular species of Hyobanche is very beautiful when the flowers are first blooming, but it doesn't take long for the inflorescence to turn brown and ugly. Actually, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
