Thanks for the video. So many memories. Sad it closed. If ANY city needs an indoor park it is Chicago.

We lived a mile away from the place for nearly the entire time it was open. I remember seeing the dome from our house and watching the big spot lights in the sky at night. I also remember the crowds at the beginning and watching the decline when all the stores started closing down and no one was going there any more. The irony was that we moved away in 1979 to Gurnee and were about the same distance away from Great America. The park that helped put Old Chicago out of business.

@milincoln It was on route 53 just south of I55 on the west side of 53. There's a huge auto auction there now where it once stood. My parents moved to Bolingbrook in 1974 and we moved out in 1979. We lived a mile or so north near Boughton Rd and could see the dome from our house. I came back a few years after it had closed and it was really surreal. The building was still there, but the huge parking lot had tall weeds growing up out of it. The thing looked post-apocalypic.

I went there once when it first opened in 1975. It was a combo mall-amusement park. The stores in the mall were cheap card shops, goofy gifts, magic trick shops. The rides in the amusement park weren't bad, but inside a giant room it was too much noise. Never went back.

My parents took me there on my 11th birthday when it was all the rage in the late 70's. Memory of the place is kind of fuzzy but vivid at the same time. Remember the rollercoaster to the ceiling really well.

@milincoln It's now the auto auction place. The street is still named after it.

Chicago of Old, entombed in cement. Odd place. It's as though someone had land & union laborers were owed a favor. Way too much money invested & the place felt cursed. But the haunted house was fun.
