THIS IS THE 1ST HALF OF THE SPEECH. PLEASE ALSO WATCH THE 2ND HALF:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzfngE...

Speech delivered by Winston Churchill in 1946 in the auditorium (Aula) of the University of Zurich.

Sir Winston Churchill gives his opinion on the future of Europe promoting federation and giving United States of Europe as an example.

One thing has changed widly since this speech. In 1958 export of UK was distributed like this:
EEC - 13%
Rest of Europe - 13%
The Commonwealth - 52%

Today UK exports are distributed like this:
The rest part of EU - 56%
USA - 14.6%
The Commonwealth - 4%

The anomalous influence in the world of tiny European countries (such as UK or France) was dictated by historical events and our higher advance in time. We have no more this advantage in a global world. The only way to defend our interests is through our own - European - family.

This is the undeniable proof that the British government supported the creation of the European Union.

Gibraltar has its own internal democratic self-governement through it's elected parliament and they can vote whether or not they wish to be under Spanish sovereignty. It did so in 1967 and 2002 and voted no. In 1981 Gibraltar claimed the British nationallity act and granted Gibraltarians full British citizenship. It makes a change for once rather than Europeans imperialising Britain. Besides the fact when Chruchill did this speech he did support the EU however I believe it was to mainlan EU.

If Nazi Germany had Britain where they wanted them why did they lose the battle of Britain which was only British forces vs German. Why did they turn their attention to the USSR. Because they gave up on trying to invade Britain. They realised it was almost impossible just as invading main land Japan would of been. As for Gibraltar the treaty of Urteczh clearly shows undeniable evidence the handing over of Gibraltar from Spain to Britain. It was not like the treaty of Hong Kong.

Only Vikings? You're forgetting Normans, Anglos, Saxons, Spanish and Romans. That's French, German, Spanish, Italian and a mixture of Norwegians and Swedish. That gave Britain trouble without Britain aggrovating or trying to imperialise them first. I don't deny that some USA people hate British just as some British hate USA people, however this is a minority today as it's not the 1800's. Britain made the Nazi's run while fighting them alone for a year. FYI USSR made the Nazi amry perish, not U.S

Honestly if England had just stayed on it's own side of the pond, no one but vikings would've bothered them, but no... they had to invade normandy right? They have to hold on to Gibraltar as a slap in the face of Spain right?

Everyone hates England cause of it's imperialism, and i mean everyone, even the USA hates their guts.

If Hitler hadn't been an idiot and declared war on the USA, they would've let England to perish gladly and just fought Japan.

Besides, Britain is the mother of the USA. It planted the seed to grow. They speak English. We have now enjoyed a prosperous alliance between our nations since WW1 at the least. In all honesty we would rather be united with nations that share more of the same concern as ours do and has similar characteristics espeically nations that have English as their mother tounge. Britain has never got on well with it's neighbours in the past. So hopefully you can understand why people don't want to.

In the history books it was indeed a stalemate but most Canucks and British class it as a victory. Indeed it would of been one if the majority of forces were not in Europe. Besides the fact when you talk about the revolutionary war, if it WASN'T for OTHER EUROPEANS aiding the rebels in America there would of been no chance in hell. The EU as it would of been back then (minus Germany and several others) kicked us out of that part of America. Not the Americans. So why should we unite.

They didn't kick us out of all of America. We stayed in Canada and controlled Washington and Hawaii untill the USA bought it from us because they couldn't win a war with us one vs one back then. The war of 1812 showed the realism of a one vs one war with USA vs UK back then. Their plans back fired having to defend USA from us rather than making us defend Canada. They lost their capital so easilly. One can persume because of this if not for war against France or Spain Britain would of progressed.
