We got new toys at our ambulance service and I decided I would be a real life dummy for them to practice on.

  • I am the one getting drilled in the video. It was done for a training class. It was painful, but no worse than a normal IV (18 gauge). Yes, gloves were not worn, but what you don't see on the video is proper handwashing before and after which is more effective at preventing disease transmission than gloves.

  • I agree w/ DOAMaster, where the hell are the gloves, rednecks???

  • and....yes, we live in the South and are considered rednecks by some....I'm cool with that...but, I would put our redneck medics against any in the country....

  • People sorry for busting the great mood, but there is NO Excuse for any TRAINED MEDICAL PERSONELL not to USE GLOVES PERIOD.

Let me tell this to you from Germany as well. And I am a highly educated M.S.R.N/Emergency Room Charge Nurse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wouldn´t do that!! that´s courage!...but what about handwashing AND glove wearing? that would be better, don´t you think? It could be a nice training-display video...but the gloves... Saludos!!!

  • @chrisemtff relax, killer they're only training. its not like any of them have AIDS.

  • where are your latex gloves!?!?!?!

risk of getting infections is so extremely high!

  • wtf? why he pull that fast? he suppose to twist till it completes then out slowly according to the manufacturers instrauctions. so u dont damage the subdermal linig.

  • Ballsey Chris, props on being the dummy.

  • i tell u what chris...u got some balls, i dnt think alot of EMTs and Paramedics would have volunteered for an IO

  • gloves - bone infection is NOT a good thing.

From the angle of the vid it looks like you are lateral to the tuberosity... should go medial. The bone is thicker laterally....

  • good video, me and a friend did the same thing when we got the easy io our dept wouldnt allow video,. but you should really wear gloves, practice as you would do in the field. just a thought

  • Got balls. I'd faint the second that needle touched the bone.
