Not true iv had a hdd open and it ran fine till i decided to jam a screw driver onto the platter.
it was a old 40gb hdd that was dying anyway.

@batmanpronz In theory If you have access to a nuclear reactor you could use part of the control array to magnetically scan all the piece, work out what order they go in and then read the data. In reality you data is destroyed.

@mygaffer I think he is refering to the regular joe smoes who finds your hhd in the trash and such. Most Joe smoes arnt going to spend mulah sending it off to a lab to recover your My space and Facebook pics . lol

just opining the plate from the hdd kills it, it wont read anymore
-
ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS INSERT THE SYSTEM DISK AND UNINSTALL THE OPERATING SYSTEM

@mygaffer the thermite option works, then the blowtorch, then the 500kv option to the platters, then sending it thru a hdd grinder..

@ThePCgamer1989 ok then what if i grind it into dust if they can put it all back together they fucking deserve to steal my identity
hammer into smithereens and distribute slivers among 20 or so trash bags over the next month(s). Anyone who can recover that deserves to steal my identity.

I've get to tell you, you are very wrong to think that your hdd is useless after just being opened. If you want to verify this take off the lid of a hdd you don't mind to lose but make sure you've installed an OS on it first. Then take off the top, leave it connected to your comp and boot. It should work for up to a few hours depending on how dirty the air is. Also, many data recovery services could EASILY get all that data back.
