The Budget Committee holds a hearing, "The Near-Term Outlook for the U.S. Economy." Rep. Chet Edwards questions Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, on whether making tax cuts permanent would have any short term effect.

  • I see this is from Nancy Pelosi's office.

    The economy is now at very high risk for a severe recession. If we go there, a Depression is likely. The Fed will feel forced to cut rates to zero if that were possible. This will cause the the dollar to fall to incredible lows and hyper price inflation will occur and people will starve. The Fed does not want to go there, that's partly why they are asking for help. The only way out is to drastically cut spending and cut taxes immediately.

  • Cut the capital gains tax as well. A massive cut in spending and pull out of the war.
