Over at http://stop8.org, we see a lot of silly claims about Prop 8, but the new radio ad put out by the National Organization for Marriage last week is just out-and-out deceitful. It's packed full of lies and misrepresentations, so we decided to set the record straight, as it were, by going point by point through their bizarre claims and explaining why they are wrong, wrong, wrong.

  • The way I see it, if you don't want same sex marriage, don't get one. Just don't stop those who do. I'm not gay myself, so I may end up being married to a woman, but I fail to see how it would be affected in any way if 2 guys or 2 girls marry each other. Can't help who you love.

  • @vidhead85

It's a contract between a man and a woman, that's how the law in virtually every country in the world, even the polygamous ones, recognise it.

  • I love you forever just for using the word "catty"

  • Great summer read! Are you a fan of strong gay characters in literary fiction? Enjoy fast, romantic suspense? REVERB is a must read of a beautiful, rich, master musician who learns to love someone other than himself. Read it on reverbnovel or jcafesin dot com..."

  • Folks that want same sex marriage don't care about the nearly 25 million of us who can't even get a full time job:( Why? Because they have a job so it does not matter to them.

  • Ask the young man here if he has a job? Most probably he is either a student (Mom & Dad are taking care of me) is independently wealthy ( I can do anything I want ) or he has a job. Just a day or two ago, CBS Evening News reported that as we speak, more Americans have been unemployed for a longer time than during The Great Depression.

Folks, we are in The Great Depression of the 21st Century:(

  • Don't pull the fascist card out on me because you can't refute me in a logical manner. The Tenth Amendment says that all powers not delegated to the feds are left to the states and the people--Look at the US Constitution--it's in cursive so take your time. It's a civil CONTRACT, if the two people in a marriage call it a covenant, then it is to them. The state doesn't enforce covenants but contracts

  • I said convenant/contract. That encompasses every legal way of looking at it. A contract is in itself a legal contract and personal promise between two members - nothing whatsoever to do with religion, so stop playing the religion card in a pathetic attempt to try to invalidate me.

You have the logic fallacy of claiming that only the state has the right to determine the definition of marriage. Wrong. Society has far more right over such an institution, or are you some fascist?

  • Yowelcom

  • The law doesn't recognize it as a covenant...you're using religious marriage, not civil marriage terms here. Marriage will REMAIN a CIVIL contract between two people. Next, a church that performs a marriage without a state license will not have the marriage recognized legally

  • Love the sarcasm!
