My Dad had this record and played it all the time. I as a child really liked his version of"April In Paris" and "This Old Man"...brilliant..I can't find this record on cd..does it exist?

The album is called 'Monk', so it might be a little hard to find at first. Also there's another album called 'Monk', and that one's from 1954 (Prestige) so make sure to not order that one. Just search for 'Monk album 1964 Columbia Records' and I'm sure you'll eventually get your hands on it. Good luck, it's worth it!

What record is this from? I have the version with the vibes from Brilliant Corners, but not this one.

It's from the 1964 Columbia album 'Monk'. 'Brilliant Corners' is a 1957 Riverside album, so 'Pannonica' will sound different on that one. I like this one better :D

I remember a really good question from some guy... If you could choose a song to play just before you die.. wich one would be?

I was between "Blue in Green" by Miles Davis and this one... but.. this is the one...

    I choose Pannonica..

So enjoy.. and you listen you wouldn't regret

I've already chosen - It's "Coltrane Plays the Blues" the whole album....nice music to die with.

I think NIca found a "cause" to devote her life to....i don;t think she had any significant insight to Jazz but she found her cause similar to Belafonte with Miriam. You find something that matters to you, and you fix one thing on this damned planet. I love Nica. Thanks for posting!

your correct about them not being lovers, he and nica. However, she was hardly the first to recognise his genious. Bird knew, Coleman Hawkins also. The Hawk may have been the eye opener, he was first to feature him on an album. Hawk caught some hell from writers that didnt understand shit...

Charlie Rouse is always a little sharp, that's his signature. Makes him sound eerie and spacious at least for me. But I'm pretty sure he's well aware of the fact.

Yes I think he is slightly sharp. I am trying to play along and the B's seem sharp.

she was not his lover but his friend and patron and the person who first recognised his genius...their's was not a love affair in any stretch of the word but a partnership. She was in fact close friends with Monk's wife Nellie. So...be careful how you use words.
