A lot of people are saying Jody and Beth were very attractive to one another. But you are all forgetting the main point! Jody was symbolized as the bad girl when all she was proving was that she loved her mother and protected herself from Ray. And she needed a "friend" who believed she was a good person. And don't forget the story was in the 80's. Kids those days didn't watch T.V. they would rather play outside and look for adventure! Hope this helps anyone!!

i didn't find anything weird about the girl relationship, i have a friend and were like the same way. To me i think that beth really just wants to help and try to protect Jody and i believe they became so close in such a short amount of time because they really understood each other no one really know or understood beth until Jody came along.
